Select To Enter Value

This is the tool for attributing features as you identify them visually — clicking the parcels that belong to one owner, or the points that failed inspection, and stamping the value on all of them at once.

• The workflow is selection-driven. Select To Input Value picks the features on the map; Selected Feature Preview shows what is currently selected, so you can confirm before writing.
• Value takes the value to write. Use Expression switches to expression entry instead, with Expression... opening the builder and Active expression: showing what is in force.
• For a boolean field, True and False buttons set the value directly.
• Set Null Value writes null. This is how a field is deliberately cleared — leaving Value blank is not equivalent, since an empty text value is not null.
• Overwrite existing value governs what happens where the field already holds data:
  • Checked — existing values are replaced.
  • Unchecked — populated fields are left alone, so only empty ones are filled. Use this to fill gaps without disturbing already-verified data.
• Check Selected Feature Preview before clicking Apply Value. A stray click on the map adds a feature to the selection, and the preview is where that becomes visible.
• For writing a value to a whole layer rather than a picked set, use Add value to fields. For filling nulls from a computed strategy, use Default Value Filler.

1. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Data Management group, open the Attribute menu and click Select To Enter Value.
2. Set Layer and Field.
3. Type the value in Value, or check Use Expression and click Expression... to build one.
4. To protect existing data, leave Overwrite existing value unchecked.
5. Click Select To Input Value and click the features on the map.
6. Check Selected Feature Preview and confirm it lists exactly the features you intended.
7. Click Apply Value.
8. Repeat for the next value, picking a different set of features.

Requires an active KGA Toolbox license. The tool validates the license before running.
