Statistics Summary

• The dialog states the scope: summarize values in one numeric attribute field. Numeric Field lists numeric fields only.
• The card reports:

• Read Records against Valid Values first. A large gap between them means the statistics describe only part of the data, and the average in particular may not represent the layer at all. Fill or investigate the nulls before quoting the figures — Default Value Filler reports and fills them.
• Compare Average and Median. A large difference between the two indicates skew or outliers, in which case the median is the more honest summary.
• Use selected features only restricts the summary to the current map selection, which is how a statistic is produced for one district or one group of parcels.
• Copy card puts the whole summary on the clipboard, ready to paste into a report.
• For statistics grouped by a category field rather than a single overall summary, use Pivot Table Builder.

1. On the KGA Toolbox tab, in the Data Management group, open the VectorIQ menu, point to Analyze, and click Statistics Summary.
2. Set Layer and Numeric Field.
3. To summarise a subset, select those features on the map and check Use selected features only.
4. Click Analyze.
5. Check Valid Values against Records. If many rows are null, treat the statistics with caution.
6. Compare Average and Median — a large gap means the data is skewed.
7. Click Copy card to take the summary into a report.

Requires an active KGA Toolbox license. The tool validates the license before running.
